Can Hair Loss Be Reversed?
Are you wondering what the cause of your hair loss may be? Stick around, because I will explain the many different reasons why hair loss may be happening to you. I’ve tried numerous things to pinpoint what the cause of mine was and found out that wearing my hair up in the same bun almost every day was ONE of the reasons that caused this seemingly “continuous” cycle. I say continuous because normally, our hair grows and falls out in “phases” which is called the Exogen phase. Let’s explore more if this is hair loss OR shedding.
Hair loss or shedding?
So this Exogen phase is completely normal. And a part of the hair growth cycle for everybody. Normal fallout is about a dime-sized amount of hair on a daily which can last about 2 to 5 months. New hairs are growing in the follicles as old hairs fall away. So if you're a weekly hair washer. Expect to see quite the amount of hair fallout. But if it’s any more than your usual. Hair Loss Causes
Here are some more factors that cause hair loss:
Wearing the same Hairstyle (to the gym/doing household work.)
Getting a Fever/Covid. (fever or illness can force more hairs into the shedding phase, noticeable within 2-3 months.)
Severe Stress or stress caused by changes in the body. (telogen effluvium)
Severe Dandruff. (can cause hair loss.)
(These different causes I will break it down in a separate blog in the next hair loss series.)
Hair Loss Treatment
That saying, Routinely switching up my hairstyles with different hair pieces, helped avoid gradual breakage along with my fallout. Along with my scalp detox treatments, I use this to revive my scalp for product/oil buildup. I can say I’ve noticed a significant amount of baby hairs growing back along my hairline.. and sticking out of my head haha. Let’s explore more treatments in depth!
What Hair loss Products Actually Work?
I can personally say with my own personal experience I’ve used hair growth products and oral vitamins that worked, but either getting off of it or being on it for too long and stopping, caused the hair loss cycle again. And most recently, I’ve surprisingly been having great results with Rosemary oil.
Here is a comparison of how close rosemary oil performed to minoxidil. Minoxidil is used to stimulate hair growth and slow balding. And is present in many hair regrowth brands such as rogaine etc. Here are some statistics.
One thing to keep in mind is that Essential oils are extremely concentrated substances and must be diluted for topical application. To dilute them they must be added to your favorite carrier oils like sweet almond oil, coconut oil, castor oil, sesame oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, argan oil etc.
Diluting essential oils prevents excessive use and protects your skin from irritation. You can also use water, which is a more difficult process that includes a solvent.
If you are interested follow this chart for diluting Essential Oils.
I personally like to use Rosemary water because of my dandruff. I found that adding more oil to the scalp ACTUALLY helps feed the fungus, which feeds on saturated fats.. Meaning your dry scalp may actually be too oily.. Confusing huh? I’ll make another post for that one. Though some oils can contain ingredients that can help fight the fungus which causes dandruff. So you can make this with rosemary essential oils, it might be effective because of its anti-fungal and astringent properties. But if your like me and want to buy the product instead. Check out the products below along with my scalp detox routine and hair tools.
My Scalp Detox Routine: (done once per week)
Step 1.
Rosemary Hair Scrub and Mist Set #ad This scrub helps purify your scalp. And you’d want to do this with just a slightly wet scalp and before your shampoo.
Step 2.
Then I use Kenra Clarifying Shampoo. #ad This will help further detoxify your scalp from oils and/or product buildup that clog your hair follicles and stunt hair growth.
Step 3.
After showering spritz on the Rosemary Mist #ad onto the scalp, in sections and gently massage.
Hair Tool alternatives for your alternating Hairstyles:
First, is the oh-so-classic Invisibobble,#ad which is great for keeping your hair dent-free when taking it down for a 2nd look. It also helps create less uneven tension on the scalp, which causes pulling, and it is also less visible than scrunchies. Now the Silk Scrunchies #ad are a little more visible, yet it creates less tension on the scalp than the invisibobble. Also to add, silk is the most gentle on your hair, and following close behind are Satin Scrunchies.#ad Which is a much more affordable alternative. And the Hair Comb Fork #ad takes the trophy and is hands down my all-time favorite! The larger fork is best for thick hair or for just a loose messy bun look. And it also includes a smaller fork, for a cleaner and put-together style, which I like to use in my low bun days.
